CLUB MEMBER OF THE YEAR AWARD

This award is made by the club committee members based on individual nominations.

The winner this year joined the club in 2011.  This person’s smile, present poolside even before joining Storms often being with Sue Moye during Swim School, grinning away.  He was appointed Boys Captain for 2 years - 2013 & 2014, and would always lead poolside warm-ups.  Whilst a shoulder injury, unfortunately, put paid to his County Swimming aspirations, he continued being a recognisable face poolside cheering for his sister and the other Sudbury swimmers, when not taking photos.  At the end of 2015 he took the Level 1 ASA Coaching course, and despite the strange and unfamiliar style of tutoring that he experienced in this very room, he passed.  Since then, he has taken over the Transition lane coaching, mostly runs our FaceBook page and helped rebuild the lane ropes recently, to name just a few of his contributions.  He is also the reason why we have not cancelled a single training session in the last 7 months – on 3 occasions at very late notice.   So, I am pleased to announce that the recipient of this year’s Club Member of the Year Award is Matthew Chambers.

HIGHEST ATTENDANCE AWARD

A new award this year, which is being given to the swimmer who has the highest attendance record at training sessions – calculated on the number of sessions they are supposed to attend.

The Award this year goes to a swimmer who has achieved 89% attendance – EMILIA SHERRED

SPECIAL RECOGNITION AWARD

The next award has been awarded by the Club’s executive committee which for those of you that have not got a clue who that is, it's Mark,  Michelle and Clive.

This will be an annual award and the shield will be named after its first recipient and going forward will be awarded annually for doing something that we feel deserves special recognition.

So the first person to receive this award relies on her mum most of the time to bring her to training and has a commute of around 20 miles in total. That cuts out quite a few of you, but without her Mum she would not be able to train and she is one of the most regular attendees at training.

This year this person has missed quite a lot of training sessions but has attended all galas to cheer on the team despite being unable to compete. They have also attended training sessions despite the panic that attending these sessions have caused her mum.

Anyone who saw this young lady swimming in the pool after her operation arriving in a wheelchair and having what can only be described as an enormous Meccano structure screwed into her legs and still pounding out the lengths will hopefully agree that she has really shown how keen she was to get back to a sport that she loved and the friends that she missed.

So it gives me great pleasure to announce that the first winner of the Hayley Collins Shield is Hayley Collins

SWIMMERS SWIMMER OF THE YEAR

Reasons for nomination:

This person is an exemplary role model having swum for many years they show a great attitude towards training and racing.  They are always encouraging and supportive of others and this year has been especially good for them.  Their determination to succeed is second to none and they have been dogged in their quest to achieve success.  This culminated in a British Record, surely one of the first for any club swimmer, thoroughly deserved and their performances should serve as an inspiration to other swimmers.

Jean Appleby

ENDEAVOUR AWARDS

These awards are given to the Male and Female swimmer who have shown commitment to the club in training and/or effort at a competition but do not always receive medals.

MALE – AIDAN CLANCY

Aidan is eager, cheerful and dedicated to training, he has good motivation and is always striving to lead the lane, which helps to push others also. Attends land training regularly and has although through illness missed some competitions has still managed to achieve 27 PB’s this year.

FEMALE – LAUREN MARTIN

Lauren is a pleasure to coach, she is very enthusiastic and has a good attitude to training and competing. Doesn’t complain and has good motivation.  Was thrown in at the deep end during Summer League, having to swim events on her weakest stroke, which ironically has now become one of her favourites!  Like Aidan attends land training regularly and has achieved 27 PB’s this year together with 1 County QT!!

SPECIAL AWARD FOR A SWIMMER

The final award is given for breaking a significant barrier, this is the 30 second barrier for Freestyle.  This was awarded to CAITLIN EVANS who achieved this in the past year.
