Held at Newmarket again this year the club had a team of 31 swimmers entered covering 127 events. After a full weekend of competition we finished the Championships in 6th place overall amassing 68 personal best times, 5 County Qualifying times and 38 medals across most of the age groups.
Saturday Session 1 – the Girls 100 Free was the 1st event and we started off well with Rebecca Robertson and Danielle Grumann both achieving pb’s, Olivia Sherred followed with not only a pb but a County qualifying time and a Silver medal. Fran Clark in the final heat of the event finished with a Gold medal. Boys 200 IM was the next event which saw Harry Milsom achieve a pb and Sam Clark finish with a pb and a Silver medal. The Girls 100 IM followed and Edith Wild achieved a pb. Next up was the boys 100m Breaststroke in which Harry achieved his 2nd pb of the session and Christopher Greenhalgh his 1st Gold medal together with a County qualifying time on his 50 split. Girls 100 Back followed and our only 2 entrants both achieved pb’s – Rebecca her 2nd of the session and Mollie Milsom. The last event of the session was the Boys 100 Butterfly in which Christopher achieved a pb and his 2nd gold medal.
Session 2 – after a short break the next session started with the Girls 200 Backstroke in which Hannah McNaul had a mighty 14sec pb to finish with a Gold medal and Fran added a pb and Silver medal to her earlier win. Next event was the boys 200 Breaststroke and Nathan Alexander swam a superb race to knock 11 secs off his previous pb to finish with a Silver medal, Harry narrowly missing out on a pb but finishing with a Bronze medal. The Girls 50 Butterfly gave us 3 more pb’s from Edith, Olivia and Danielle and another Silver medal of Fran. In the last event of the session the Boys 50 Free we had 2 young swimmers competing in their 1st major competition, Toby Conway-Moule and William Murray although understandably a little nervous, rose to the occasion and both knocked 3secs off their previous times. More pb’s followed from Nathan, Harry Moye and Sam with Ryan Alexander and Bobby Wyatt receiving Bronze and Silver medals also.
Session 3 – rounding up the day in the last session we started off with the Girls 200 Free in which Hannah had another amazing swim knocking 15secs off her time to finish not only with another Gold medal but a County qualifying time also. Rebecca achieved yet another pb and Mollie a Silver medal. The Boys 200 Butterfly saw Christopher with another Gold medal narrowly missing out on a pb. Following on with the Girls 50 Breaststroke Kate Hann in the last heat, like Hannah, achieved the “treble” – pb, Gold medal and a County qualifying time. In the last event of the day the Boys 50 Backstroke, 6 pb’s were achieved by both the Harry’s, Sam, Ryan, Bobby and Christopher, Gold medals for Sam and Christopher, Silver for Bobby and Bronze for Ryan – a good strong finish from a very exciting day of racing!
Sunday Session 4 – Mollie started the morning off well for us with a good pb in the 200 IM and a Bronze medal, Next up was the Boys 100 IM and pb’s quickly followed by Nathan, Orion Nichol, Harry Milsom and Sam who also received another Silver medal. Ryan finished with a Bronze medal and Connor Hume in his 1st event of the Championships won a Gold medal. The third event of the morning was the Girls 100 Breaststroke which saw Maria Grumann narrowly miss out on a pb but finishing with a Bronze medal, Alicia Demetriades with a pb and Mollie with her 2nd Silver medal. The Boys 100 Backstroke followed with good pb’s from Orion and Harry Moye. Sam and Christopher both in fine form again with not only pb’s but a Gold medal each to add to their tally. Ryan not to be outdone finished with a Silver medal. Alicia followed next in the Girls 100 Butterfly with a Bronze medal and pb and in the last event of the session the Boys 100 Free Alfie Lawrence and Harry Moye both achieved pb’s.
Session 5 – Maria Grumann started off the next session with a pb and another Bronze medal in the 200 Breaststroke in which Alicia also achieved her 3rd pb of the day. The next event the Boys 200 Backstroke saw an exciting race finish between Orion and Harry Milsom, side by side battling it out stroke for stroke for the Bronze medal with Orion just pipping Harry on the touch by just 2/100ths of a second. Yet another pb for Sam together with his 3rd Gold medal and a 6th Gold and pb for Christopher with Ryan finishing with his 2nd Silver medal. Next came the Girls 50 Free and as in the boys event a day earlier we had both Nicole Grumann and Florence Felton competing in their 1st major competition with Florence attaining a small pb together with Emmy Fenner and Danielle. Georgie Hodgson just missed out on a Bronze medal but was more than happy with a pb and a County qualifying time. Last event of the session was the Boys 50 Butterfly and Adam Barrett was “flying” knocking 4 secs off his previous pb, Harry Moye too finished with a good pb and Connor a Silver medal.
Session 6 – The last session kicked off with the Girls 50 Backstroke both Nicole and Florence were back in action recording pb’s, as did Emmy and Alicia. Hannah with yet another fine swim and a pb by more than 2 secs finished with another Gold medal. Next event was the Boys 200 Free and this saw Sam Roberts competing in his 1st major competition, swimming this event only for the 2nd time he recorded a 6 sec pb to finish with a Bronze medal. Adam & Harry Moye continued their fine form of the day to record pb’s also. Penultimate event was the Girls 200 Butterfly and with just 1 entrant, Hannah did us justice with a good pb and her 4th Gold medal. Final event of the Championships was the Boys 50 Breaststroke and in the last heat to round off the competition on a high Ryan at last won a Gold medal.
