JOHN AMONG THE AUSSIE GOLDS
Sudbury masters swimmer, John Fry, took a holiday in Australia that coincided with the ASustralian Nationa 1994 Masters Swimming Championships.
He came home in triumph having won three gold medals, two silver medals plus an award for the top swimmer in his age group (50 - 54) and runner-up in the combined age-group competition. The competition took place at the 50 metre Olympic pool in Adelaide over five days, which John pictured right, found overwhelming, to begin with. But he quickly overcame any doubts he had by taking a gold medal in his first event... the 100m breaststroke in a time of 1:29.17.
He won the 200 meters individual medley, one length of each stroke, in a personal best time of 3:03.56. Only a few lengths short of a 50-54 age group national record.
On the third came a setback, a silver medal in the 50 metres butterfly with a time of 35.91.

TOUGH CONTEST FOR THE MASTERS
Sudbury Masters swimmers travelled to Sheffield for the National Masters Championships and came up against some very strong opposition.
But they did well with Stuart McLellan taking fifth place in the 400m IM with a personal best time and achieved another personal best time in the 1500 m front crawl for another fifth place and also took fifth in the 200m front crawl. He was seventh in the 100m butterfly and 400m front crawl and ninth in the 100m front crawl.
Sharon Reid returned to Suffolk with a bronze medal from the 800m front crawl and came fourth in the 400m front crawl. She also achieved a personal best time in the 200m butterfly.
There was also a bronze medal for John Fry in the 200m breaststroke and a personal best time and fourth place in the 100m breaststroke. He took sixth places in the 50m breaststroke- with another personal best time - and in the 100m IM.
Barbera LeMesurier achieved fourth places in the 200m breaststroke and 50m breaststroke and came 13th in the 800m front crawl.
Sudbury now has five Masters swimmers in the top ten of their age group in Great Britain .... a tremendous achievement for a small club.
